Well, we were definitely smiled upon Saturday evening. The temperatures were in the 70’s and there was a constant summer breeze. Around 40 boaters gathered to share a terrific pot luck meal. The variety of vegetable dishes and salads was so nice. It was great to see the men who prepared food this year. Tim Jancsics brought the colorful scewers which displayed the American flag shown in the picture below, Jim Fenn made some of the best oatmeal cookies I have ever tasted and David Waldren combined cauliflower with lasagna ingredients for a vegetarian Italian casserole. It seemed that we are all focused on healthier choices. However, we also polished off all of the yummy fried chicken from the Deltaville Market and put a serious dent in Miss Carol’s iced pound cake!
Wayne Ruotolo did a wonderful job of singing his magically relaxing songs as he played a guitar and charming ukulele. Later in the evening, he even had us singing along….
A valiant group of 6 boaters agreed to try the first DYC marina scavenger hunt. Russ Seltzer “Joie deVie”, Dave Paul and Ms. Corney”Mi Barquito”, made up the winning team, “The Collectors”, completing the hunt in under ten minutes….including one very sad looking crab leg. The equally great 2nd place team, “The Admirals” was made up of Debbie and Jennifer Smalley of “Windswept” and Linda Moore “Joie de Vie”. They were only short one crab leg….but brought a variety of sailboat hardware to cover the need of a shackle….Quote of the night from Linda Moore “If you can’t tie a knot….tie a lot”!
As you can tell the 14th annual Deltaville Yachting Center Boaters’ Party was a great chance to catch up with fellow boaters. It was really neat to have boatel, slip, service and yacht sales boaters all mixed together, chatting, eating and enjoying the summer night.
As I thought about it afterwards, I was reminded of the following verse from Psalm 107:23-24 “Those who go down to the sea in ships, who do business on great waters, they see the works of the Lord, and His wonders in the days.”
Thanks for being part of another year at DYC.
